Why GMC parts need a specialist
GMC shares its platforms with Chevrolet — Sierra with Silverado, Yukon with Tahoe, Terrain with Equinox — but Denali and AT4 trims add their own brakes, suspension, lighting and trim. Many of the GMC parts we quote are for 1999–2013 Sierra, Yukon and Envoy trucks still working every day, so we read the RPO codes off your VIN and match the part to the truck as it was built.

- GMC Engine, Fuel & IgnitionThe 5.3-liter V8 changed from the Gen III/IV engines (LM7, LY5, LMG) to the direct-injected Gen V L83 in 2014 and L84 in 2019 — coils, plugs, injectors and fuel pumps differ across those families, and the direct-injected engines use a high-pressure pump plus an in-tank lift pump.
- GMC Body & LightingSierra headlights vary by trim — halogen on base and SLE, projector and LED on SLT, AT4 and Denali — and the 2016 refresh changed the front end from the 2014–2015 trucks; the 2019+ trucks changed again.
- GMC Batteries & ElectricalMost Sierra and Yukon models take a Group 48 (H6) battery, with a second battery tray on Duramax diesels and some plow-prep packages; 2019+ trucks with auto stop/start need an AGM battery.
- GMC Suspension & SteeringSierra and Yukon suspension differs by RPO: Z71 off-road, Z85 heavy-duty, and Denali's Magnetic Ride Control with electronic dampers; a 4WD truck uses different front shocks and lower control arms than a 2WD.
- GMC Brake PartsSierra 1500 (2014–2018) moved to larger front rotors than the 2007–2013 GMT900 trucks, and the two generations do not share pads, rotors or calipers; the 2019+ T1 trucks changed again and added an electronic parking brake on most trims.
- GMC Cooling & AC PartsSierra and Yukon radiators vary by tow package and transmission cooler lines — the Max Trailering package uses a larger radiator and auxiliary cooler — and Duramax trucks use their own radiator, intercooler and cooling stack.
- GMC Drivetrain & ExhaustFront CV axles on 4WD Sierra and Yukon differ between the 1999–2006, 2007–2013 and 2014+ trucks; the rear axle ratio (RPO GU4/GU5/GU6/GT4) sets the ring-and-pinion and is on the glovebox label.
- GMC Filters & FluidsGen V 5.3 and 6.2 engines (2014+) call for dexos1 0W-20 oil and a different filter than the earlier engines, which use 5W-30 and their own spin-on filter.
