Ford F-150 parts by VIN: why the year alone is not enough
The F-150 is the vehicle we quote most, and it is also the one where a year-only search goes wrong most often. Ford built each generation with several engines, two or three bed lengths, and mid-year changes that split a single model year in two. The VIN carries all of that.
- Generations: 1997–2003, 2004–2008, 2009–2014, 2015–2020 and 2021 onward. Body panels, lights and interior parts do not cross between them.
- Engines across those years include the 4.2 V6, 4.6 and 5.4 V8s, the 3.5 and 2.7 EcoBoost, the 5.0 V8 and the 3.3 V6. Fuel pumps, injectors, coils, converters and alternators all differ by engine.
- The parts we ship most for F-150s are tail light and headlight assemblies, fuel injectors and pumps, catalytic converters, brake rotors and pads, ABS modules, intake manifolds and shift actuators.

- Ford Engine, Fuel & IgnitionEcoBoost engines (1.5, 2.0, 2.3, 2.7, 3.5) run a colder plug at a 60,000-mile interval and are hard on ignition coils; carbon build-up on intake valves is a known trait of direct injection.
- Ford Body & LightingF-150 headlamps come in halogen, halogen-with-LED accents, and full LED (Lariat and above), and the 2018 refresh and 2021 redesign each changed hood, grille, and lamp shapes.

- Ford Drivetrain & ExhaustF-150 rear axles are 9.75-inch on most builds with optional electronic lockers, and axle ratio is a build option — the code on the door label tells us which gears and shafts you have.
- Ford Filters & FluidsMotorcraft oil filters are the OE choice and the FL-500S fits most 2011-and-newer V6 and V8 engines; viscosity varies by engine — 5W-30 on the EcoBoosts and 5W-20 on many 5.0 V8s.
