Why Dodge & Ram parts need a specialist
Dodge and Ram platforms stay in production for a long time — the Ram 1500 DS body ran from 2009 to 2018 and continued as the Classic beside the new DT truck, and the Charger and Challenger platform ran from 2006 through 2023 — so year, cab, engine and package matter more than the badge. Many of the Ram, Dakota and Grand Caravan parts we quote are for 2000s trucks and vans that are still on the road.
Dodge & Ram parts by category
- Dodge & Ram Engine, Fuel & IgnitionThe 5.7 HEMI uses 16 spark plugs (two per cylinder) with coil packs that each serve two plugs, and the 2009+ Eagle-head engines use different plugs and coils than 2003–2008; the 6.4 HEMI in 2500/3500 and Scat Pack cars is its own engine code.
- Dodge & Ram Body & LightingRam 1500 headlights vary by trim — quad halogen on base trucks, projector on Sport and Laramie, full LED on Limited and Rebel — and the 2013 and 2019 model years changed the front end, so the exact year and trim decide the housing.
- Dodge & Ram Batteries & ElectricalRam trucks use a Group 27 or Group 94R battery depending on year, with a second battery on Cummins diesels; 2019+ Ram 1500 eTorque trucks add a 48-volt battery and a belt-driven motor-generator in place of a normal alternator.
- Dodge & Ram Suspension & SteeringRam 1500 (2009+) uses a coil-spring rear axle unlike the leaf-spring 2500/3500, and trucks with the optional air suspension use height sensors and a compressor instead of conventional springs; 4WD 1500s use different front control arms than 2WD.
- Dodge & Ram Brake PartsRam 1500 brakes changed with each generation — 2002–2008, 2009–2018 (DS), and 2019+ (DT) — and the DS body was sold as the Ram 1500 Classic through 2023, so two different 2019 Ram 1500s can use different pads and rotors.
- Dodge & Ram Cooling & AC PartsRam 1500 radiators differ by engine and tow package — HEMI trucks with the Max Tow package use a larger radiator and auxiliary transmission cooler — and Cummins trucks use a separate radiator, charge-air cooler and, on 2013+, a coolant-cooled EGR.
- Dodge & Ram Drivetrain & ExhaustRam 1500 4WD front axles and driveshafts differ by cab and bed length and between the DS and DT trucks; 2500/3500 4WD trucks use a solid front axle with unit bearings and U-joints instead of CV axles.
- Dodge & Ram Filters & FluidsRam 1500 with the 5.7 HEMI takes 5W-20 oil and a standard spin-on filter, while the 3.0 EcoDiesel and Cummins trucks need diesel-rated oil and filters plus a fuel filter with water separator — the 6.7 Cummins has two fuel filters on 2013+ trucks.
