Fitment traps on the Ram 1500
- From 2019 to 2024 two different trucks were sold as the Ram 1500: the DS Classic (the 2009–2018 design) and the new DT. Body, lighting, interior and many mechanical parts do not cross. The VIN tells them apart.
- The 5.7 Hemi gained cylinder deactivation (MDS) in 2009 and changed lifters, camshaft and the oil pump; MDS lifter failure is a known repair, and the parts differ from the 2003–2008 Hemi.
- 2009 and newer trucks use rear coil springs, not leaves. Rear shocks, springs and control arms are unique to the DS and DT trucks.
- Trucks with the optional air suspension (2013+) use air struts front and rear and a compressor; standard trucks use coil-overs. They are not interchangeable.
- Ram 2500 and 3500 are a separate heavy-duty truck with different everything below the cab. Do not order HD parts from 1500 listings.

How do I know if I have a Classic or a DT Ram?
Give us the VIN. Visually, the Classic keeps the 2009–2018 crosshair grille and dashboard; the DT has the wide 'RAM' grille lettering and a new interior.
Do you source used Ram modules?
Yes, but most 2009 and newer PCMs and ABS modules need programming to your VIN by a shop with wiTECH. We say so on the quote so you can plan for it.
Are Dodge Ram and Ram the same truck?
Yes. The truck was badged Dodge Ram through 2010 and Ram from 2011, with no change in the parts.
