A clicking noise when turning is the sound of a CV joint that has lost its grease, and by then the axle is usually the answer rather than a boot. CV axles are sold per side and change with the transmission and drivetrain, so a front-drive Accord and the same year's V6 with a different gearbox take different shafts. We match by VIN and quote new and remanufactured.
New or remanufactured
New aftermarket axles are the usual choice: they cost about the same as a rebuilt one and come with new joints and boots. Remanufactured OEM axles keep the original shaft and joints with new boots and grease, and are worth it on vehicles where aftermarket shafts have a reputation for vibration, which includes some Honda, Toyota and GM applications. Left, right, and which drivetrain
Front axles differ by side because the transmission sits off-center; the longer shaft on one side may have an intermediate shaft and support bearing. All-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive vehicles add rear axles, and 4WD trucks use front axles that only turn when four-wheel drive is engaged. Tell us the side and whether the vehicle is 2WD, AWD or 4WD, and we do the rest from the VIN.
Boot or whole axle
A boot that has just split, with no clicking yet, can be re-booted if the joint is cleaned quickly. Once the joint clicks, the axle is the fix. On most vehicles a complete axle costs little more than the labor of re-booting, which is why shops replace the shaft.
