What’s different about Chevrolet drivetrain and exhaust parts
- Silverado rear axle ratio (3.23, 3.42, 3.73) and the G80 locking differential are RPO options; axle shafts, bearings, and gears depend on the code.
- Transfer case encoder motors and 4WD actuators are common failures on Silverado, Tahoe, and Colorado; Traverse and Equinox AWD use a power transfer unit with its own fluid.
- 5.3 and 6.2 trucks use multiple catalytic converters, and Duramax diesels carry DPF and DEF systems; California and CARB states require CARB-certified replacements.
CARB-compliant catalytic converters for the Chevrolet Traverse
The Traverse 3.6 V6 has two close-coupled converters built into the exhaust manifolds, one per bank, and they are a frequent replacement on 2009–2017 models. Which converter is legal depends on where the vehicle is registered, and getting that wrong means a failed inspection and a second purchase.
- California, and the states that adopted California's converter rules (including New York, Maine and Colorado), require a CARB-certified converter with an Executive Order number listed for the exact engine and model year. A federal converter will not pass.
- Bank 1 and bank 2 converters are different parts. A P0420 code points to bank 1 (driver side on the 3.6), P0430 to bank 2.
- The emissions certification on the underhood label decides which converter family applies even outside California.
