What’s different about Chevrolet cooling and AC parts
- Silverado and Tahoe radiators vary with tow and cooling packages (built-in transmission and oil coolers); a radiator ordered by year alone often has the wrong fittings.
- Cruze 1.4 turbo is known for coolant leaks from the plastic thermostat housing and water outlet; Equinox and Traverse 3.6 water pumps and thermostats are common replacements.

Silverado 1500 radiators: which of the three versions fits
Search for a Silverado 1500 radiator and you will find three or four listings for the same year. That is not a mistake — GM built the truck with several radiators depending on options, and the wrong one either will not connect or will not cool a tow load.
- Every automatic-transmission Silverado has a transmission cooler built into the radiator tank; the fitting style changed between the 1999–2007 Classic body, the 2007–2013 body and the 2014–2018 body.
- Trucks with the heavy-duty cooling package (RPO V08) use a thicker core, and trucks with the auxiliary transmission cooler (KNP) or engine oil cooler (KC4) have extra fittings. Those codes are on the glovebox label.
- 5.3 and 6.2 trucks with the tow package are the ones most often sold the wrong radiator; a base 4.3 or 4.8 truck is far simpler.
